Get To Know Your Chimney From Ground To Crown With Professional Video Inspections
Diagnosing problems with your chimney system and identifying hazards can be challenging since most of the system is hidden from view. Sometimes you just need a closer look to really get a true idea of what kind of condition your chimney is in and get to the bottom of problems. That’s where video inspections come in.
Video inspections are performed by Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) certified chimney professionals, using state-of-the-art video scanning equipment. During a video inspection, we feed a video camera down into or up into the chimney flue, which allows us to see the smoke chamber and flue liner up close. Without video scanning technology, it’s impossible to get a true look at the interior of the chimney flue, which means without it, we can’t always see every threat, crack, or area of concern. We also check all easily accessible areas of the chimney system during a video inspection, including attics and crawl spaces.
When Is A Video Inspection Needed?
Video inspections don’t necessarily need to be part of your annual maintenance if your chimney and attached appliance are operating normally and you haven’t made any changes. But sometimes you need to get a better look. We recommend video inspections if you are:
- Changing fuel types or appliances
- Relining your chimney
- Selling or buying a home
Video inspections are also necessary after a chimney or house fire, and if a severe weather event like a tornado, earthquake, or lightning strike may have damaged your chimney. The goal of the video inspection is to provide you with a better understanding of what damage may have been done and what needs to be done to resolve any problems and reduce any safety risks.
Following a video inspection, we’ll provide you with a detailed report of our findings, including pictures of the damage or areas in need of attention. In many cases, having this information and evidence of damage can make insurance claims easier and less stressful.
